Jamey Geston

Biography

  

Eleven-year-old Jamey Geston is a young talented acoustic solo artist who has been performing on stage she was three years old.  Performing most of her life from stage to film and she is now pursuing another passion... music.  She started playing guitar at age eight and juggles her spare time between school, acting, guitar, voice lessons and frequent drives to LA for auditions.  You can usually catch her playing at the Carpinteria, Montecito, Goleta, and Santa Barbara Farmers Markets.

She has participated in singing competition at karaoke and performed at farmers markets, festivals, special events and showcases from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles.  With her inspiring performances and expanding audiences, she has begun to perform in bigger venues and with her first major performance at The Avocado Festival 2009 which received great reviews.  Her music genre ranges from Acoustic, Folk, Pop, Rock, Country, Alternative, to Punk but she adds her personal style with every song she does.

Jamey studies vocal with Kathleen Kernohan who teaches the world famous Speech Level Singing technique used by 120 Grammy winners, American Idol, and 5 Metropolitan Opera winners. She also had vocal training at an early age and performed on stage in musicals and operas. Jamey is former member of the international acclaimed "The Children of the World Choir", she has performed for Natalie Cole, Sting, Dustin Hoffman, and Robert Downey Jr. at various Los Angeles venues including the Unicef Snowflake Ball at Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills and House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood CA

In 2006 Jamey met Linda Finnegan founder of the non-profit organization  Kids With A Cause (KWAC). Jamey became an active member volunteering her time to helping children and performing at special events.   Serving as positive role-models, KWAC offer a "hand-up" to disadvantaged youth through interactive programs and deliver messages of encouragement, inspiration and hope.  She continues to give her time with  other charitable organizations’ such as L.A.U.R.A. FOUNDATION, BIG SUNDAY, and Violence Prevention Coalition (VPC) where she inspires others through her music.

In the summer 2009 she got big jump in her music by attending the two-week rock camp, Rockshop Academy. It was hosted and instructed by industry veterans of popular rock groups Diswalla, Sugarcult, Snot, Alistair Green Band, Nerf Herder all from Santa Barbara. Open to young serious musicians from ages 12 - 18, Jamey was accepted at just 10-years-old for her talent and skills as the youngest musician to attend. Going in with strong vocal training and amazing acoustic skills, she made fast transition to electric and bass guitar. They ended their camp session with a live music showcase at Velvet Jones, Santa Barbara's Premier night club. 

Deemed  as “the next” Taylor Swift she continues to perform every chance she gets charming her growing audience of young and old. In 2010 she will be heading to the Los Angeles to record her first music CD and also plans to team up with songwriter and guitarist Maxton Schulte on future projects and shows.

Jamey has teamed up with fellow Rockshop Academy student Maxton Schulte. They took a two week camp in a crash course on playing with a band and what it takes to navigate the music industry.  They quickly became serious musician friends landing the lead performers in their RA band which showcased at Velvet Jones Nightclub in Santa Barbara.

Maxton, a twelve-year-old aspiring songwriter and musician, started playing guitar at ten. His songwriting skills really kicked in while attending camp where he became very motivated with his songwriting. He plays lead guitar but also plays bass and drums but has now shown an interest in vocals.

Jamey and Maxton have been spending most weekends together working on covers songs.  They have started performing at the Farmers Market and downtown State Street in Santa Barbara. They do not have a band name yet but working on cover sets for future gigs. They plan to focus in the Santa Barbara/Ventura/LosAngeles counties areas for performance venues.

Their music genres include Acoustic, Pop, Rock, Country, Alt, and Punk. Jamey’s style of music is a cross over between Taylor Swift, Sara Bareilles and Sheryl Crow but loves Hayley Williams from Paramore.. Maxton loves the old classic rock, Beatles  and ACDC. Between them both they share a variety of music with their own style.

In February 2010 they will be attending the Durango Songwriters Expo where they hope to get some exposure to the music industry profressional.Also George Pendergast founder of Rockshop Academy and former drummer of Diswalla has invited them to record their first CD which he will produce by summer 2010.
