 Newsletter July 2010

Just finished up 4 weeks of Rockshop Academy!!! Based in Santa Barbara, California, Rockshop Academy was started by Dishwalla / Penfiteen Club drummer and Mike's Drum Shop owner George Pendergast, and David Young, the band's former manager, who guided Dishwalla from garage band to gold records and the #1 Billboard Rock Song of the Year. Pendergast and Young launched Rockshop Academy to foster the next generation of aspiring musicians in the Santa Barbara area with the guidance of seasoned pros from the generation that put Santa Barbara on the music map.

During the 4 weeks I strengthen my vocal and guitar performances skills and in our break-out sessions learned more cover songs on Electric, Bass, and Keyboards and wrote two songs. I met new friends and rocked out with old friends. We had awesome instructors, like George Pendergast (Dishwalla/Penfifteen Club) Rodney Cravens (Dishwalla) Alastair Greene (Alastair Greene Band & Alan Parsons Live Project) and JR Richards (Dishwalla) At the end of each week we did live performances for family and friends. We totally rocked the house!!!!

I entered the a Talent Search contest and won both category in the same week!
18 and under original song: "I'm So Done Tonight"
18 and under cover song: "The Only Exception" (Paramore)

We will reunite as Talent Search winners and Rockshop Academy 2010 Summer Session attendees to perform at Old Spanish Days Fiesta! From 12-4 we will take the stage at Mercado Del Norte @ Mackenzie Park!

A showcase has been tentatively set for September at SOhO Restaurant and Music Venue in Santa Barbara where we will come together once again and for a live show and ROCK the stage!!! This will be an awesome show!!!! (time and date-TBA I will keep you posted)

OTHER NEWS

* I was invited to sing and play the National Anthem for the Santa Barbara Forester game on Sunday July 25 @2pm, This was pretty cool to be asked since it came from a referral from a gig I did for the Buddy Walk. Two things about this: 1) never sang the song before, 2) or played it on guitar but now I can do both! I was a little nervous since it was televised on FOX Sports Network, but I did okay!

* Warming up the stage at Nite Moves Runs on Wednesday July 28 from 5-5:45 for my good friends False Puppet who go on around 6:30. I met False Puppet (Brennan, Tyler and Channing) last year doing the Rockshop Academy and have followed their amazing journey. We have performed at the same venue and support each others music. They ROCK!!

* Girls of Rock Night on the third Thursday of each month Jensen's Mainstage features "Girls of Rock" has become one on my favorite venues. I get to meet and network female musicians and rock with some of Santa Barbara's best. Last month I invited Rockshop friends Alyssa and Maxton to join me and we debuted our original song "What Did You Expect" We had a blast. The next Girls of Rock Night is August 19 mark your calendars!

* Asked back to perform an hour acoustic set for 10-11am @ SB Charter School Flea Market -End of Summer/Back to School Concert & Faire at the Market this will be my third time there and it provides support to the community and the school.

* Did an amazing photo shoot with my Daisy Rock Guitars in downtown Santa Barbara's Art District. I sent DR a link and they added me to their artist album on facebook. I LOVE my acoustic guitars but since rock camp I think I'm ready to go electric and even bass.

She’s held her own beside legends like Tippi Hedren and Mickey Rooney. She’s been everything from Tinker Bell in her school play to a feature film actress to a musician lending her talents to concert fundraisers for causes that touch her heart, and Jamey Geston is just eleven-years-old. Maybe it’s the Hollywood royalty running through her blood that’s got her so driven and comfortable. Maybe it’s that the Bridges family is so grounded and supportive of each other. Maybe it’s magic. Whatever the case, nothing is going to get in Jamey Geston’s way of making all of her dreams come true. More...

Young Chanteuse Jamey Geston Gets Daisy Rock Deal

(Press Release | Sunday, June 13, 2010)

Jamey Geston joins other prolific artists on the Daisy Rock roster, such as Wanda Jackson, Avril Lavigne, The Bangles and Sugarland.

Walking into the Daisy Rock showroom, is like a kid in a candy store. Guitars are every where and in more colors than Skittles or M&M's! With guitars shaped like Daisies, Hearts, Butterflies from acoustic, electric to bass choosing the perfect one can be challenging.  After spending almost two hours jamming and looki

ng at guitars in the showroom,  Jennifer Farmer, Artist Relations and Marketing Coordinator asked the young chanteuse "which guitar did you like most?" Jamey looked at acoustic, electric and bass guitars but had a hard time deciding. Jamey never really dreamed that Jennifer would come out with the perfect guitar for her; the BUTTERFLY BUBINGA Jumbo Acoustic/Electric and give it to her for FREE! "I was totally surprised and so excited!" Staying true to her heart she knew she wanted another acoustic but electric, "that's who I am, its what I like to play." Jamey's only concern now is which one to play and when! She got her first Daisy Rock guitar at ten, it's Pixie Acoustic Pink Sparkle which gave her the nickname "The Girl with the Pink Guitar."

At just 11 years old, Jamey Geston, is an quadruple threat; singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actress who has been on stage since she was three years old. Performing most of her life from stage to film and now pursuing another passion... music. Jamey started singing publicly at age four and playing guitar at age eight. She has participated in singing competition at karaoke, and has performed at farmers markets, festivals, special events and showcases from Santa Barbara to Orange County. Performing a mix of covers and original material, Jamey knows what it takes to draw a crowd.

Past performances include the California Avocado Festival, Santa Barbara Fair and Expo, Girls of Rock- Jensen Mainstage,

Santa Barbara Maritime Museum Sea Festival, Children Cottage Hospital for Children's Miracle Network Telethon, Velvet Jones and various community and charity events throughout Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Her alternative country folk sound has positive energy, and her pint size charm attracts fans everywhere she performs.  Currently she is working on songwriting and hopes to have her first original song, "I'm So Done Tonight" along with some covers out soon.
