BIG SUNDAY LEMONADE STAND FUNDRAISER

TO BENEFIT SHANE'S INSPIRATION

Fifth grader Jamey Geston will be hosting the 3rd annual "BIG SUNDAY (weekend) - When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade" Stand! This Saturday, May 2nd, 100% of the proceeds from this lemonade stand will go directly to Shane's Inspiration. The vision of this non-profit organization is to eliminate bias against children with disabilities and to create universally accessible playgrounds and programs that integrate children of all abilities. There are currently 22 of these playgrounds in the United States and 16 are scheduled to open this year. Jamey selected this charity because she has been to one of these very special playgrounds and found it to be truly amazing and inspirational.
Supporting Jamey in this endeavor will be fellow students Justin Orth, Christian Romero, Chloe Varela, and Leslie Varela, all of whom will be part of the "Big Squeeze" crew. To show your support, please stop by Reyes Market this Saturday, 4795 Carpinteria Ave., between 11AM - 2PM to quench your thirst with a cup or two or three of lemonade @ 50¢ a cup. Be a part of this largest annual citywide community service event in America, right here in Carpinteria!

Geston will also volunteer for Big Sunday- “Bring Your Kids to Record Books for Less Fortunate Kids” on May 3 in Los Angeles, reading and recording a favorite book and then, the books and the recordings will be brought to children in hospitals and shelters around town.

L.A.U.R.A  Unity and Peace Fair 2009

Jamey Geston has only been playing guitar for a little over a year. She juggles her spare time between homework, acting & dance classes, guitar lessons,  and frequent drives to LA  for auditions. She has found a new passion in her music where she spends countless hours playing her guitar and you can occasionally catch her playing at the Carpinteria and Santa Barbara  Farmers Market. So when she was recently invited to perform for L.A.U.R.A. (Life After Uncivil Ruthless Acts') UNITY & PEACE RESOURCE FAIR,  she felt like it would be a dream come true, performing on stage and for a good cause. On Saturday March 21, 2009 at the Fred Roberts Park in South Los Angeles, Geston was the youngest performer on stage and pleased the crowd with her choice of songs. Between playing music she met with the crowd made new friends and signed autographs. She took a limo ride with some of the the supporters of the L.A.U.R.A. cause, "this is so cool, it was awesome," Geston said climbing out of the limo in true Hollywood style.

"The organization "L.A.U.R.A” was formed in memory of Laura Sanchez. Laura was murdered on March 18, 2007 while parking her family van in front of her home. She was a wonderful, beautiful, loving mother of four and friend to many. She was an only child to Irene Cruz who was murdered the same way on a Thanksgiving night while waiting for Laura and her family on her mother’s front porch Nov. 1998. Both innocent bystanders murdered by senseless “Drive By Shootings” in less then a decade. Life After Uncivil Ruthless Acts' (L.A.U.R.A.) Unity & Peace Resource Fair was established to raise public awareness due to lack of services and resources in "The Forgotten" part of Greater Los Angeles.

Event organizer and Founder Adela Barajas gave very emotional speech thanking Geston and one other young performer. "It is amazing how you responded to the call out for our event, with being so young and beautiful. As I saw your pictures I got chills on my body, because Laura loved kids. I realized that she is still so much in love with kids, she is like an Angel mysteriously  working her magic from up above, she is bringing these children to remind us of her dream...."

Highl ights of the event for Geston was receiving Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles presented to her by LA City Councilwomen Jan Perry for her participation and efforts to the community and the city.  "You have a sweet and beautiful voice" Councilwoman Perry said. "I look forward to hearing you sing later."  Also she received a Glass Elephant Award as a Thank You from the LAURA Foundation.  Geston has been invited to come back next year and without hesitation she excepted

CARE Awards Honor Child Stars--Actress Jamey Geston Honored At Hollywood Red Carpet Event

The BizParentz Foundation's 5th Annual CARE Awards honored showbiz kids at the Universal Studios on March 15, 2009 in Universal City, California.

Fifth grade student, Jamey Geston  was honored with a C.A.R.E. (Child Actor Recognition Event) Award during a red-carpet ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Jamey has been acting since she was two years old, with a list of over two dozen film credits, she has been in films with  Jeff bridges, Rachel Hunter and film legends Tippe Hedren, Mickey Rooney. This award recognizes her work in film, her community service with "Kids With A Cause" where she donates her time helping others, her school academics but the over all positive impact she brings to the entertainment industry .

Geston  was honored alongside Hollywood 's youngest stars. That's unusual for Hollywood awards where intergenerational honors are hard to come by. At first glance, CARE, aka Child Actor Recognition Event, looks like a typical Hollywood red carpet awards show. But CARE requires that even their child honorees bring something to the table. CARE Awards are based on a unique point system where young performers (18 and younger) must qualify with a combination of professional acting work in 2008, academics, union membership, training, a written essay, community service, parent industry knowledge, and several other criteria. Additional criteria include clean online presence and an art project.to celebrate the positive ways children contribute to the entertainment industry.

Awardees received red carpet entrance to Universal Studios, private awards luncheon, engraved trophy, gift bag, collectible souvenirs, and entrance to Universal Studios Theme Park for a day of kid-oriented fun following the event.  This is Geston fourth year to be honored.
